National GEM Consortium

The National GEM Consortium provides fellowships for doctoral students. This GEM Fellowship program is open to Penn Engineering doctoral students.

What is GEM?

GEM is a network of leading corporations, government laboratories, top universities and top research institutions that enables qualified students to pursue graduate education in applied science and engineering.

GEM recruits motivated and talented students looking to pursue graduate degrees in applied science and engineering.

• More than 1800 applicants for 2018 were screened and matched to employer needs.
• Students’ average GPA exceeds 3.5/4.0 scale
• There have been more than 4000 successful GEM Fellowships since 1976
• Fellowship comes with Graduate School Programming, including an annual conference and symposia.

In order to become a GEM Fellow or GEM Associate Fellow, an individual must apply for a fellowship at the National GEM Consortium website which opens annually on July 1.

GEM also needs Judges and they have a process for nominating judges to review applications.  Please click here for information on becoming a judge.

Last, Penn Engineering grants application fee waivers to potential Ph.D. applicants who attend our yearly open houses or who are candidates for GEM Fellows.
